This is a fascinating book. Highly recommend to anyone interested in thinking about magickal systems, the process of magick, or pop culture magick.
First, the main topic, creating systems for pop culture magick really brings the topic of pop culture magick alive. If it is to ever really be a viable form of magick for practice or theory, it'll have to instantiate systems of workings that can be shared and maybe one day could be traditions. At first this idea didn't seem so serious or clear, but then I thought about Disney and Mickey and games like Epic Mickey and Kingdom Hearts. These games have rewoven the Disney mythos and given them a different life.
The possibilities of combinations of characters and existing or created or repurposed structures is endless. You could make a qliphoth with Disney villains or horror film monsters. A qabalah with Lord of the Rings characters. Or to use one of Ellwood's example, you could map the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and Splinter) to be the 5 elements. - Joshua Howard
In this book, the author gives you the complete breakdown of what you need to create your own system of magic from the pop culture that sparks your imagination. He writes of how he wants to help generations to come to work with the stories that fit the current time and the new heroes that current generations are growing up with.
Mr. Ellwood talks about his own work in the Universes of The Legend of Zelda, Harry Potter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dragonball Z. He even includes a chant that he has used with the main character from the video game Horizon Zero Dawn. He does this to show that you can use just about any Pop culture genre that appeals to you. The author goes into great detail explaining what correspondence is and how to work with it in a meaningful way.
Mr. Ellwood also has written about the different Principles of Magic. He gives full definitions of each principle and he writes about 11 different principles, this is something that I personally have not seen many authors do. The author has done this because this is a true break down of how to Create a Magic System that will flourish and grow for you in the future. - Dawn B.
