The author definitely turns the magic world on its head by killing the 'sacred cows' of the magic and sorcery world. For the last 2 centuries the practice of sorcery has been the same, doing the same rituals, worshipping or making offerings to the same entities in the same way for as long as anyone can remember. The author injects a new perspective on how the 'new gods' or gods of the current era are that of comic books, fantasy, and science fiction. Just like in societies and cultures from centuries ago had mythology and stories of God's that they created!
